Lulling you in a quiet haven – Cinnamon Bey Beruwala

Updated: Dec 1, 2018

If you’re looking for a holiday that affords you seclusion and comfort within a hotel that’s well-reputed for genuine hospitality and good food, Cinnamon Bey Beruwala is sure to tick all your boxes.

One of the largest properties along the southern coastline, this beautifully constructed resort was a haven of sorts, when I visited recently. Walking in, you’re almost immediately struck by the expansiveness of the entire place – long sprawling corridors, carefully thought-out architecture and sweeping green lawns that are immaculately kept.

Not one for enjoying being in close contact with other hotel guests throughout the length of my stay, this resort was a welcome change from most other commercial hotels. Although the walk to my room was long, once I got there, I was beyond happy. The room overlooked the pear-green lawns which are encircled by hedges that offer sneak-views of the ocean beyond.

All about the rooms

The modernly architectured, Ottoman-inspired interiors in the rooms at Cinnamon Bey display a mix of bold colour and playful patterns. Spacious and comfortable, guests can choose from the Superior Rooms, Delux Rooms and Suites.

The Superior Rooms, of which there are 170, come with their own terrace and a view of the gardens and ocean beyond. They also have a large screen TV for in-room entertainment, and a writing desk. You can request for one with a king-sized bed or twin beds.

The Delux Rooms are designed with striking black and white tiles. Each of the 28 rooms are located in an exclusive area of the hotel with a dedicated bar, restaurant and swimming pool. These rooms also have a dedicated private pool, private bar and snacks, a bathtub and a spacious sitting room.

Literally located on higher ground, the Suites at Cinnamon Bey offer you a panoramic view of the entire bay. You get your own private living and dining rooms, in addition to the lush bedroom. The comfort here will no-doubt be taken up a notch with your own private balcony plunge pool.

All rooms come with a safety deposit box, complimentary toiletries, hair dryer, face and bath towels, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar, satellite TV, telephone with IDD and free Wi-Fi.

To wine and dine

Quite possibly one of the most remarkable features of the hotel, the dining options here are eclectic, to say the least. With six specialty restaurants, lounges and cafes, you will be spoilt for choice.

Büfe is their spacious, buffet-style dining venue that serves up Continental and Sri Lankan fare. They also have show-cooking stations and themed breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

Their tapas lounge serving up Middle Eastern and Lebanese food is Mezz². Open for dinner, the place oozes an exotic atmosphere with its vibrant fiery tones and enchanting music.

Sought after as one of the unique experiences here, Rock Salt is the first restaurant in Sri Lanka to feature the concept of hot lava rock cuisine, with a chance of you being your own chef. After an initiation by the chef, you are left to your own devices and can choose from a variety of marinades, spices, oils and other ingredients inclusive of meats, seafood and greens. You even get a shabu-shabu style pot for an altogether different DIY cooking experience.

Raw is Cinnamon Bey’s sleek seafood bar and terrace. You have the option of dining at the bar’s terrace or requesting to have Raw’s items served to you at Grain Bar and Lounge next door. You can also have the Raw appetizers served at Rock Salt. Sunset cocktails, platters of sushi and chilled appetizers in the form of sushi, sashimi, cured fish and shellfish are just some of the options here.

For poolside snacks and drinks – sandwiches, salads and desserts all through the day, 800°, with its fiery hues, does the job.

For some recreation and rejuvenation

With a great view of the beautiful garden, the main pool of the hotel lies at the end of their many-layered lounge. There is also the privacy of the exclusive pool open to deluxe room and suite guests which is located within their wing. The baby pool is located close to the main pool.

Not surprisingly, this is where you’d find the most amount of guests, but the lawns are so extensive, that you can find shady spots to lounge on within more than decent distance of anyone else.

For anyone feeling guilty about missing a fitness routine while on holiday, the hotel has a decent glass-walled gym located in the middle of the gardens, with cardio machines and dumbbells. There is also the badminton and volleyball courts, for anyone looking to work up a sweat.

No holiday is complete without a day of being spoilt at a spa; with six well-appointed treatment rooms, Azmaara Spa, offering a range of treatments, including Balinese massages, body scrubs and wraps, manicures and pedicures, facials and more, is the ideal place to be pampered.

Would I go again?

Of course. With hardly anything to fault and food and service to satiate even the pickiest of travellers, Cinnamon Bey Beruwala really does hit the mark when it comes to hospitality and leisure. Do book a room and find out for yourself.
